  • I decided to go back on the Atkins diet on monday as I feel it is my carb-rich diet that makes me sick (and bloated) too. I know people have strong opinions on Atkins but it works for me and I am happy to continue with it for the time being. It makes me laugh when some people say “you’ll get colon cancer” as they are often the people who think eating vegetables is eating chips (french fries) and mushy peas (don’t know if there is a US equivilant to THAT delicacy!).

I’ll do it for a while and see how I go, the first two weeks are the killer as your body has to get used to to the unnatural high of all the sugar you used to pump into it but I’m actually feeling ok at the moment.

I’m off to Dublin tomorrow night with the Boyf. for a lightning visit. we are just going over so he can visit where his mom’s remins lie. She wanted to be cremated so obviously there is no graveside. I’m not sure what to expect – I do hope it won’t be anti-climactical for him. He needs to go and see were she is though. Apart from that I want to try and get to the passport office to get the ball rolling on my Irish passport. I could renew my British one but I’ve decided that an Irish passport might just make me safer; one never knows when you might get kidnapped or highjacked!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

  • Atkins has been successful for some. As long as you watch your health you should be ok. My husband is desperate for the day that he can get a Scottish passport. Speaking of cremains, HIM works in the funeral industry. I haven’t ever had mushy peas, but HIM has. Sounds disgusting. HER

  • Good luck with your diet!  I just saw Angela’s Ashes. When u said Dublin I thought of that. I would like to visit.

  • Hi Colin.  I am finding that if I eat a lot of wheat I am in agony so maybe a healthy Atkins diet with lots of chicken, turkey and occasional red meat would do me good.  Even pasta seems to make me feel a bit bad so I eat a lot of rice which does not affect me.

  • I don’t think there IS an American equivalent to mushy peas?

When in Dublin, please go to a pub.
